1941
Founded by Dona Flournoy Stewart
Early 1940's
Pioneer Day consisted of horse games, communal meals, & small gatherings of local families.
Pioneer Day began as a true grassroots community celebration.
Late 1940's
Growth of participation as surrounding ranches & families join.
1950's
*Pioneer Day becomes more recognized in the Paskenta/Flournoy area.
*More structured activities start emerging like organized horse events and an informal parade.
1960's
*Increased participation from neighboring areas of Tehama County.
*Formal Parade is implemented.
*Bridge is created between older ranching generation and youth of the community.
1970's
*Horse Events organized into categories.
*Introduction of concessions & organized grounds.
1980's
*Strong emphasis on youth participation & family legacy.
*1981- Award established in memory of Neva Luce.
1990's
*Becomes a multi-generational event.
*Expansion of camping.
2000's
*Increasing importance as rural communities shrink.
*Continued parade & horse events.
2020-2021
*Cancellation due to COVID-19.
2022-Present
*Return to traditional celebration, highlighting new events like pony chip bingo.
